This week has been a tough week for my January diet with the appearance of a toasted sandwich machine in the office. The smell of toasting bread and melting cheese floating through from the kitchen has been hard to resist, especially when you have a low calorie salad in front of you. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good salad, they can be super tasty, but can they ever really live up to a perfectly cooked cheese toastie?
I’m eating this on a Sunday and I’ve been pretty healthy all week, plus we have a little Godminster cheddar leftover from Christmas so I’ve decided to have a small break from my diet and give myself a cheesy treat. I’ve chosen to make my toastie in a pan instead of a toastie maker as my gluten free bread is slightly too small (don’t want all the delicious cheese to escape).
Gluten Free, Cheese and Ham Toastie
Prep time: 2 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
serves: 1
Ingredients:
2 slices Genius gluten free bread
1 knob of butter
1 slice honey roast ham
1 handful grated Godminster cheddar
Place a large frying pan over a medium heat. Spread a little butter over both sides of the the bread and place it in the pan.
Once one side of the bread is golden brown turn one slice of bread over. Top with the cheese and the ham and place the other slice on top browned side down.
Cook the sandwich in the pan until it is golden brown turning half way to ensure all sides are cooked evenly.
When the bread is golden brown and the cheese looks melty and delicious remove from the pan, slice in half and enjoy.
